UTBM trains engineers who are quickly ready for the workforce and particularly adaptable to technological advancements and societal changes. Its programs are grounded in research and commercialization.

Practical Information

To provide companies with the resources and expertise of the UTBM and to prepare our future engineers and doctoral students for professional careers by having them carry out concrete development projects.

Your contact for industrial contract management

The UTBM’s SAIC aims to facilitate and formalize the following activities:

  • partnerships with manufacturers
  • Promotion of research conducted in UTBM laboratories

This is a support service for researchers that assists with the negotiation, execution, and management of research, service, analysis, and consulting contracts.

Organization

The UTBM’s SAIC is a shared service with a separate budget. It reports to the director of the UTBM.

Why contact him?

Industrial partners, SAIC is your point of contact for:

  • negotiating and drafting the contract
  • legal aspects (patents, etc.)
  • Financial aspects (cost calculation, invoicing, payment, etc.)

Entrust the development of one of your projects to a team of students (at least two). Conducted in parallel with coursework over the course of a semester in a project-based format, the project is supervised by a UTBM faculty member. This team will provide you with technical solutions to the problem you present.

CIR – Research Tax Credit
* Certain R&D projects entrusted to UTBM are eligible for the research tax credit and may be
counted toward the CIR tax base at double their amount. In this case: for every €100 spent,
€200 will be included in the calculation of your research tax credit
* For two years, salary expenses for newly hired PhDs (on permanent contracts) are
counted at double their amount

Objectives

Service

  • It is part of an R&D contract, which may be short-, medium-, or long-term, depending on the needs
  • It will take various forms—advanced or strategic research—and will take the form of: calculations, expert assessments, audits, testing, models, prototype parts, etc.

Organization

  • We collect your inquiries and forward them to the professor or researcher (and the laboratory) who specializes in that field
  • He works with you to establish the specifications and objectives
  • The contract is drafted by our department
  • A project management and oversight framework is established in collaboration with you

CIFRE – Industrial Agreements for Training Through Research

CIFRE agreements bring together three partners—a company, a recent graduate, and a research laboratory—around a research project that will lead to the defense of a doctoral dissertation.
These agreements are intended for companies that commit to assigning a recent graduate (with a master’s degree) to conduct research in direct collaboration with an external laboratory.

The CIFRE programs are managed and coordinated bythe National Association for Technical Research (ANRT) on behalf of the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, and Research.

During the three-year term of the agreement, the company receives an annual lump-sum subsidy from the ANRT.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The company must be incorporated under French law (associations, public institutions, public interest groups, etc., are excluded). The proposed project must be aligned with economic development objectives.
  • The candidate must be approximately 26 years old and hold a recent master’s degree. He or she must not have been enrolled in a doctoral program for more than one year. This will be the candidate’s first professional experience. The candidate is expected to pursue a career in the private sector. Graduates of engineering, business, or management schools who do not hold a Master’s in Research must obtain it during the first year of the agreement, unless they have received an exemption from the scientific council of the university at which they will enroll in the doctoral program. The CIFRE program is open to candidates of all nationalities.
  • The laboratory will be located at a university, a school, a public research organization, or a technical center. It may be a laboratory located abroad. It must be able to provide effective supervision to the candidate in order to offer high-quality research training.
