Universities of Technology are public institutions with a scientific, cultural, and professional focus. Under the supervision of the Minister of National Education, Higher Education, and Research, they award state-recognized degrees. As institutions that combine the characteristics of both engineering schools and universities, they occupy a unique position within the French higher education system.

The Executive Committee implements the policies established by the Board of Directors and oversees the day-to-day management of the institution.

Ghislain Montavon, Director of UTBM, chairs the executive committee.
It is composed of functional directors (or project managers) appointed by the board of directors and elected department directors.

The chair of the executive committee is the director, who is selected from among the categories of staff eligible to teach at the institution. The director is appointed by the minister responsible for higher education, upon the recommendation of the board of trustees, for a renewable five-year term.

The academic divisions contribute to the fulfillment of the institution’s missions. In particular, the divisions ensure the quality of the degrees awarded, as well as the alignment between the curriculum and the needs of the labor market. Departments that do not award degrees ensure the quality of the education, as defined within the framework of the accreditation granted by the Commission for Engineering Degrees and other existing accreditations.

Each division is managed by a division director and a division executive committee.

Composition of the division's executive committee:
  • 4 faculty members and faculty researchers who are members of the cluster and were elected to represent their respective academic programs;
  • 4 faculty members who are full members of research teams within the cluster’s research units—for which their institution serves as the lead or co-lead institution—and who have been elected on the basis of their research;
  • 4 BIATSS staff members, elected officials;
  • 4 students (4 regular members and 4 alternates) enrolled in programs offered by the division, who were elected;
  • Four individuals representing various socioeconomic sectors, appointed by the school’s principal.
