The Systemic Policy on Gender Equality is mandated by the Act of July 22, 2013.

Its implementation is based on the 2013–2018 Interministerial Agreement and its continuation, aimed at promoting equality in the education system. This agreement embodies a shared vision: success for all students, whether they are in a work-study program or not.

As such, the institution is committed to the student community:

  • To create the conditions necessary for the school to promote the message of equality between girls and boys at all levels and to help change gender-based role divisions in society.
  • To promote greater gender diversity in educational programs at all levels of study

For staff: Development of the UTBM’s “Gender Equality in the Workplace” action plan in March 2021 (regulatory requirement)

We are continuing our activities (participating in meetings, organizing events, etc.) and remain open to your feedback.

In accordance with Article 123-2 of the Education Code, which stipulates that “the public higher education system contributes […] to the fight against discrimination,” UTBM implements a policy that promotes diversity and social cohesion. To this end, through its “diversity” initiative—and in close collaboration with its “equality” and “inclusion” initiatives—the institution is committed to the student and staff community:

  • To inform and raise awareness among students and staff (prevention component).

Through awareness-raising and outreach initiatives—most often carried out in collaboration with external partners—during key events—such as International Week Against Racism—as well as throughout the year: activities during breaks between semesters, visits to museums, places of worship, and sites of remembrance, film screenings, lecture-discussions, exhibitions, study days, etc.

  • To prevent and, where appropriate, discipline risky behavior (disciplinary measures).

By combating all forms of discrimination, insults, defamation, incitement to hatred, and harassment—whether racist (based on origin, or membership or non-membership in a specific ethnic group, nation, or religion, whether real or perceived), anti-Semitic, or anti-LGBT+. With this in mind, the UTBM has established a support system to listen to and assist individuals who find themselves in any of the situations mentioned above.

The goal of this initiative is to strengthen the institution’s policy against disability-related discrimination and to improve the study and work conditions for students and staff who face barriers due to a disability in their environment, whether in terms of accessibility, understanding, or comprehension.

How?

  • By supporting students and staff with disabilities in their efforts and academic journeys.
  • By raising awareness and educating the entire community about issues related to disability.
  • By promoting technological research in the field of disability (project-based courses, participation in the Crunch Maker Camp and Crunch Time).
  • By organizing events focused on disability within the UTBM.

to struggle

Against gender-based and sexual violence, harassment, and discrimination

New students and new staff are briefed each year during the back-to-school and orientation meetings.

Events are regularly organized by the “equality,” “diversity,” and “disability inclusion” coordinators for students and staff to raise awareness about these issues.

The UTBM’s support and reporting services are available to students and staff who are victims of or witnesses to violence, sexist behavior, harassment, or discrimination.
