UTBM trains engineers who are quickly ready for the workforce and particularly adaptable to technological advancements and societal changes. Its programs are grounded in research and commercialization.
The energy transition requires decarbonizing human activities as quickly as possible. Hydrogen energy is one of the key drivers of decarbonization, with applications in both stationary and on-board systems. The rapidly developing industrial sector centered on these technologies—in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, throughout France, and beyond—already has a significant need for personnel trained in hydrogen technology to meet the demands of a growing number of projects. With more than 20 years of research on hydrogen, UTBM is a major player in the hydrogen ecosystem of Northern Franche-Comté, where numerous companies—ranging from startups to large corporations—are expanding in this field.

The Specialized Master’s program served as a real springboard for my entry into the business world. Thanks to its work-study format, I was able to build both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, which I immediately put into practice within my team. The instructors came from a variety of backgrounds, and their lectures were particularly enriching. The balance between professionals from the business world and faculty members from academia truly enriched the program. I highly recommend this program: not only did it help me land my first full-time job, but more importantly, it gave me a solid foundation to get my career off to a strong start.
Decarbonization Methods Engineer – GE, Class of 2024
The six-year master’s program specializing in hydrogen and energy was very enriching, particularly because it provided an understanding of the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to use. I particularly appreciated the focus on the issues surrounding the energy transition and the associated environmental challenges. The discussions with industry professionals were also very informative, providing a concrete perspective on the sector’s applications and challenges. These discussions allowed us to explore specific use cases in depth and deepen my understanding of the field’s current and future challenges.
Surface Protection & Chemistry Process Specialist – AIRBUS, Class of 2024
The MSH2 program gave me a solid foundation of knowledge about the entire hydrogen value chain, as well as a good understanding of the sector’s challenges and prospects. Through interactions with the instructors, I was able to build a valuable professional network, which helped me land a job very quickly. This program is highly valued by companies actively seeking talent in the hydrogen sector. Even now that I’m employed, I continue to receive regular opportunities, including for international projects.
