Since 2020, UTBM has been issuing Open Badges torecognize the transferable skills students have acquired outside of their academic programs, in connection with their commitments, participation in events, experiences, achievements, values, or personal aspirations.
At UTBM, Open Badges recognize and certify our students’ “non-degree” skills and informal learning. They also highlight the cross-disciplinary initiatives implemented by the institution.
Some of our Open Badges are open to the entire UTBM community and to external participants.
An Open Badge is a reliable, simple, and innovative way to recognize informal learning and to acknowledge, certify, and highlight one’s experiences and cross-cutting skills.
Technically, an Open Badge is a digital image that contains a certain amount of verifiable and tamper-proof information, allowing it to document an individual’s various learning experiences, commitments, achievements, skills, values, or aspirations.
An Open Badge is personal and can evolve as the recipient’s journey progresses. It can be enriched over the course of a student’s experiences by adding new evidence or records.
Specifically, an Open Badge provides information about its issuer and recipient, the criteria for earning it, and the evidence supporting its award.

At UTBM, Open Badges are stored and centralized in a personal “badge bag” that can be viewed onOpen Badge Passport.
A free, transferable, and secure platform: this platform allows you to publish and share your Open Badges.
An Open Badge can be displayed on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc., and by including them in your resume. The evidence contained in each Open Badge attests to the achievements required to earn it, the skills acquired, and its official status.
