The QS World University Rankings is an annual university ranking published by the British rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS, https://www.qs.com/).
It is one of the three most prestigious university rankings, along with the Times Higher Education (THE) and Shanghai rankings.
The 2025 edition of the QS Subject Rankings lists the top 1,559 institutions worldwide across 55 disciplines within five major academic fields.
A total of 27 French universities or schools appear in this ranking. This places France in fourth place worldwide, behind China and ahead of Germany, with the United States and the United Kingdom occupying first and second place, respectively. In total, French institutions appear 516 times in the subject-specific rankings.
The Belfort-Montbéliard University of Technology has once again been included in this highly selective ranking this year, placing in the 551–600 range among the world’s best institutions in the field of “physics.”
