French republican secularism is sometimes misunderstood because it is unique in certain respects, just as the French Republic is unique compared to other democratic systems.
This misunderstanding sometimes gives rise to a sense of discrimination, linked to experiences of other forms of discrimination, in a society that tends to view injustices through this lens.

But what if secularism were, in fact, a means of combating discrimination?
Ms. Elizéon, former prefect of the Belfort Territory (and therefore well-versed in the realities of our region) and current Interministerial Delegate for the Fight Against Racism, Antisemitism, and Anti-LGBT Hate (DILCRAH), will focus her lecture on this paradox.

Drawing on her extensive experience in this area, she will do us the honor of clarifying the essential—yet sometimes misunderstood—relationship between secularism and the fight against discrimination.

Lectures in the University Diploma Program on Secularism and the Republic

These lectures take place at the end of each month during the “Secularism and the Republic” University Diploma program’s student sessions , to provide an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on secularism by grounding it in current issues.
They are open to anyone interested in deepening their knowledge of the subject, particularly professionals working in this field, regardless of their professional background.
The goal is to facilitate discussions, in an open and respectful setting, on a topic so often considered sensitive and challenging.
