The Belfort-Montbéliard University of Technology is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019. It was officially established on January 14, 1999, following the merger of the Belfort National Engineering School (ENIb) and the Sevenans Polytechnic Institute (IPSé).
A Little History
In the early 1960s, manufacturers in the region lamented the lack of qualified students to meet their needs. This led to the idea of establishing a school in the urban area, an initiative driven by the strong commitment of Alsthom and local authorities.
In 1962, an engineering school program was founded, which two years later became the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Belfort. In the early 1980s, higher education in technology was strengthened in the urban area with the establishment of a branch of the University of Compiègne, supported by local policymakers: this was the UTC, which later became the IPSé (Institut Polytechnique de Sevenans) in 1991.
UTBM, formed by the merger of ENIBÉ and IPSÉ, was finally established in 1999. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, UTBM is proud to highlight its alumni. Check back every week for a featured profile!

Today, UTBM ranks 7th among French engineering schools in terms of the number of graduates per year.
Nineteen graduating classes have graduated, totaling more than 9,000 engineers!
Students come from all over France, and 20% of them come from abroad.
