TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) conferences are an international series of talks organized by the nonprofit Sapling Foundation. This foundation was created to spread “ideas worth spreading.” The first conferences were held in California in 1984 (first in Monterey, then in Long Beach), and more recently, they have been held twice a year in other cities around the world under the name TED Global.

TEDx is a program that allows schools, companies, libraries, and groups of friends to enjoy an experience similar to that of TED through events they organize themselves. TEDx licenses are granted by the TED team to create a sustainable ecosystem around the globe.
Objective: Given its success, TED wanted to enable its broader community of fans to spread the TED spirit around the world. The TEDx program was created for this purpose: to continue sharing ideas and our passion for knowledge. The “x” signifies that these are independently organized events that adhere to certain criteria defined by TED.
