UTBM is sharing with you a document of about fifteen pages. It is the result of our reflections on technology and the purpose of our commitment—to our students and within society. Because we believe it is important to know where we want to go.
Now more than ever, environmental, social, and economic challenges call for innovative and sustainable solutions. At the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM), we believe that technology should not be an end in itself, but rather a means of building a more balanced, inclusive world that respects our planet.
That is why we are publishing the “Manifesto for Responsible Technology.” This document reflects our commitment to integrating innovation, ethics, and sustainability into our engineers’ training and into all of our projects.
Our goal is to:
- A holistic approach: Viewing technology as an interconnected ecosystem in which every advancement must fit within a comprehensive framework that respects both people and the environment.
- A Commitment to Ethics and Transparency: Promoting inclusive, fair, and democratic technological solutions that prioritize the principles of social justice and environmental responsibility.
- Simplicity and relevance: Advocating for “technology that is just what is needed,” designed to meet real needs while minimizing its environmental impact.
Our ambition: To use technology as a tool to positively transform our society while respecting our planet’s limits.
