Professor Bob-Antoine J. MÉNÉLAS is the Director of Graduate Studies (M.Sc.) and a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics. He joined the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) in Canada in August 2011. He holds an M.Sc. (2006) from the University of Angers, France, and a Ph.D. (2010) from the University of Paris-Sud XI, France, in computer science. Before joining UQAC, Dr. MÉNÉLAS was a postdoctoral researcher in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Calgary, Canada. His research areas include haptics, virtual reality, scientific visualization, and serious games.
Following his participation in the most recent Crunch Time event, and at the invitation of Franck GECHTER, Director of International Relations and Internationalization, Bob-Antoine visited as a guest lecturer from October 9 to 26, 2024.
The purpose of the visit was to foster research synergies between the two institutions through scientific articles and responses to calls for proposals.
On October 17, Professor MÉNÉLAS presented his research at a conference in Building E in Belfort. Many students and faculty members gathered to learn about his projects, which place people at the center of technological innovation. Among the developments presented, the smart cane for the visually impaired and the sensor-equipped insole designed to prevent falls drew particular attention.
In the second part of the event, our host presented the computer science master’s program at UQAC, providing valuable information to UTBM students interested in a dual degree. He also discussed the possibility of studying there as part of a single-semester exchange program. Currently, seven UTBM students are enrolled in the dual-degree program with UQAC, and four are participating in a single-semester exchange program.
