Marc Bondiou has been appointed French director of UTSEUS; new partnerships with companies have been signed, as well as a new research agreement focusing on nanotechnology.
Appointed for a three-year term, Marc Bondiou, 55, succeeds MonZen Tzen. A doctor and engineer with an agrégation in physics, he taught at the University of Haute-Alsace and conducted research at Laval University (Quebec). He then turned his attention to international relations, first as director of international relations at the Institut d’optique Graduate School and later as science and technology attaché at embassies in Poland and China.
According to him, “the priorities, shared by both the French and Chinese sides, are naturally to develop UTSEUS as a versatile platform for undergraduate education, research, and innovation.”
New partnerships with companies
On June 10, several companies signed a partnership agreement with the founding institutions of UTSEUS: Actia, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, Engie, Learning Tribes, Faurecia (China) Holding Co. Ltd, and Serrinov.
This signing reflects the companies’ involvement in UTSEUS activities: courses taught by company experts, site visits, projects and internships for students, scholarships, and collaborative research topics.
A partnership agreement was also signed between UTSEUS and “French Tech” Shanghai, an organization supported by the French government that aims to accelerate trade and the development of French companies in each country.
A New Framework Agreement on Nanotechnology Research
On June 22, a research agreement between the Nanotechnology and Optical Instrumentation Laboratory (LNIO) at UTT and the Key Lab of Advanced Display and System Application at SHU (Shanghai University) was signed in the presence of the laboratories’ directors and researchers.
These partnerships involving companies and research laboratories complement those already in place since 2005, the year the initial agreement—valid for a period of 20 years—was signed.
