On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Linas-Montlhéry racetrack (Essonne), students and faculty members from more than 10 French engineering schools and universities gathered to present their latest research and innovations in autonomous vehicles. This challenge, organized byUTAC in partnership with the Société des Ingénieurs de l’Automobile, took place at the heart of the legendary racetrack and its impressive speed ring.
This year, for the first time, UTBM fielded two teams:
One team, composed of six computer science students, conducted research on localization methods—with or without maps—using artificial intelligence software;
The other team, composed of four faculty members specializing in AI, focused on improving the perception capabilities of autonomous vehicles.
Building on its experience from the 2022 competition, the team from UTBM’s CIAD laboratory won first place in the professional category. The vehicle completed a lap on the dedicated urban circuit at Linas-Montlhéry in under 3 minutes at an average speed of 30 km/h, in front of a jury of professionals fromUTAC and SIA.
The student team, meanwhile, placed second in the open category out of 9 participating schools.
Ready for 2024, the UTBM teams already have new innovationsin the works to compete in this upcoming third edition!
