Share, Study, and Innovate in the Franco-Swiss Jura Arc
The Knowledge Community (Cds) was originally founded by seven French and Swiss higher education and/or research institutions. Its mission is to promote and support Franco-Swiss cooperation in education, research, and innovation within the Franco-Swiss Jura Arc region. By pursuing its objectives, the Cds helps enhance the appeal and competitiveness of the Franco-Swiss Jura Arc. It contributes to the dissemination of innovations throughout the region’s socio-economic fabric.

The Smart Cities Project
The Smart Cities project, led since 2023 by UTBM and its two Swiss partners—Haute École-Arc (Neuchâtel) and Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (FHNW)—brings together a class of multidisciplinary students (economists, managers, engineers, etc.) each year to envision the cities and towns of the future.
This innovative project begins with a week of collaborative work at one of the partner organizations, during which students familiarize themselves with the concept, visit companies and local governments, and engage with experts. The teams then continue their research throughout the semester to bring their ideas to life in the form of a proof of concept.
This project provides innovative solutions to urban challenges (construction, mobility, governance, etc.) and contributes to the ecological transition of our regions. It is recognized as part of the students’ curriculum through the IW52 course unit, “Smart Cities.”
A project made possible by the support and guidance of the CdS, the Greater Belfort area, the City of Neufchâtel, the City of Basel, and the municipality of Badevel.
Our Joint Master's Programs
The École Polytechnique de Lomé (EPL), a member of the University of Lomé (UL – Togo), and UTBM have jointly developed a two-year master’s program in computer science. Two tracks are available: Computer Science & Systems or AI & Big Data. Students are trained on the EPL campus by a teaching team composed of Togolese and French faculty. They complete their program with a 6-month end-of-studies internship to earn a joint UL-UTBM degree, for which UTBM is accredited. During their studies, they have the opportunity to spend a semester studying at either the UTBM or UTT campuses.

The PEA-IMPACT Program
The PEA-IMPACT program supports the University of Lomé (UL – Togo) and its new component, the Lomé Polytechnic School (EPL), in establishing a comprehensive and coherent system of engineering programs ranging from the bachelor’s degree to the doctorate. These programs, which focus on employability and entrepreneurship, are integrated into the regional economy.

These programs lead to a dual degree from EPL and one of the consortium members. The medium-term goal is recognition by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieurs (CTI).
Members of the IMPACT Consortium
For more than fifteen years, the Malaysia Program, coordinated by SFERE and Campus France, has supported the education of hundreds of Malaysian students across all UTBM degree programs. Selected immediately after graduating from high school, these scholarship recipients receive 6 to 12 months of intensive French language instruction. After completing their initial studies at an IUT, they transfer to UTBM to finish their degree. Thanks to the personalized support provided by our teams, more than 99% of them graduate each year (2024 figures).
Program Director at UTBM
FITEC programs are bilateral collaboration initiatives between institutions of higher education that train high-level engineers. They support student exchanges and the development of dual-degree programs. These programs are supported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR). They are implemented with the support of the Conference of Directors of French Engineering Schools (CDEFI).
UTBM is participating in two ARFITEC projects (Argentina) from 2023 to 2026 and two BRAFITEC projects (Brazil) from 2024 to 2026, as part of a consortium with French, Argentine, and Brazilian partners.
