Some of you may have recently come across one of those vintage ads touting the capabilities of the AMSTRAD CPC464 with a cassette drive (please).
This is a chance (while we wait for the game to load…) to bring back a few memories from the past… nostalgia, you’ve got us! Well, guess what—Astro stopped by my office yesterday… you might remember this little robot.
More specifically, it was Mathieu TRICLOT, a professor and researcher in the philosophy of technology at UTBM, who stopped by my office. We had the chance to talk about what was one of the first Japanese anime series. Mathieu didn’t come alone but brought a book with an eye-catching cover featuring several “front pages” from French video game magazines of the era, namely Canard PC, Joystick, Jeux Vidéos magazine, Joypad, Player One, Tilt, and Console +, among others.
The book, hot off the press, is titled *Reading Video Game Magazines: Coverage in the French Specialized Press*, a comprehensive exploration of the birth and evolution of the video game industry within newsrooms since the late 1970s. Edited by Mathieu TRICLOT, Sélim AMMOUCHE, Björn-Olav DOZO, and Alexis BLANCHET, it takes us back—with illustrations to boot—to a world blending Donkey Kong, Minitel, and other Microtel clubs.
And what about you—what memories does this bring to mind? You’re sure to find them in this comprehensive research book, which you should order right away from Presses Universitaires de Liège, right here.
Game Over (and we promise we'll tell you more about Mathieu TRICLOT's fascinating work very soon).
