A passionate sculptor and draftsman, Roland Castro designed numerous buildings, including the Belfort-Montbéliard University of Technology.
His work as an architect and urban planner is known for projects such as the Bourse du Travail in Saint-Denis (1983) and the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée in Angoulême (1990).
In the early 1980s, higher education in technology was strengthened in the metropolitan area with the establishment of a branch of the University of Compiègne, which was supported by local politicians: this was the UTC, which would later become the IPSé (Institut polytechnique de Sevenans) in 1991.
UTBM, formed by the merger of Enibé and Ipsé, was finally established in 1999.
Roland Castro was selected to design the Sevenans campus, for which the cornerstone was laid in March 1987.
