Many data centers no longer meet current IT reliability requirements or modern energy consumption standards. Furthermore, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure a sufficient power supply for new projects. Based on this observation,our partner university, Haute École Louvain en Hainaut (HelHa), has created the BIP “Green Data Centers: Achieving Business Requirements and Energy Efficiency”.
“A Blended Intensive Program offers tremendous educational value. It allows participants to discover new technical approaches, exchange ideas with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and interact with students from different cultures. These exchanges broaden everyone’s perspective on learning practices in Europe,” explainsThomas Herpoel, a professor at the HelHa School of Engineering.
As a result, Adam Daniel BIN ZULKORNAIN, a computer science student, andLogan CHEVROLAIS,Lina DHAYBI, andMidul SHEIKH, students in energy and electrical engineering, seized this opportunity and traveled to Mons from March 23 to 27, 2026, to study at HelHa as part of an ERASMUS+ exchange program.
“This experience allowed me to develop my technical skills, improve my teamwork, and interact with people from diverse backgrounds. As a student in Energy and Electrical Engineering, this experience was particularly enriching. I was able to deepen my knowledge of critical electrical infrastructure, power distribution, system redundancy, and the challenges related to energy efficiency in data centers. These aspects are now at the heart of the sector’s energy and technological challenges. On the last day, we had the opportunity to visit Kevlinx Data Centers in Brussels. This visit allowed us to discover the operational realities of a data center, including power supply systems, cooling solutions, infrastructure redundancy, and issues related to service continuity. This immersion in a real-world environment was particularly enriching in helping us better understand the technical, energy, and economic challenges facing the sector,” says Midul SHEIKH.
Lina DHAYBI also particularly enjoyed this experience: “This project allowed us to put our skills into practice while working as a team on a real-world problem. At the end of the week, we had the opportunity to present our work in English to a panel consisting of professors, industry professionals, and managers from the data center we had visited in Brussels.”
A big congratulations to our students for their dedication! Beyond the ECTS credits they earned, they had a particularly enriching academic and intercultural experience, directly tied to current issues in digital technology and the energy transition.
