UTBM wanted to share the “CRUNCH Time” experience with middle and high school students participating in its “Cordée de la réussite” program. To this end, in partnership with the Belfort-based engineering firm MS-INNOV (www.ms-innov.fr), it organized an event that was fully tailored to the students’ needs while offering the same methodological approach and a unique immersive experience.
Following an introductory day in October 2022 and preparatory work in the months that followed, 84 students from 12 middle and high schools, along with their accompanying teachers, gathered on Thursday, April 27, for the entire day at the UTBM Innovation CRUNCH Lab (Belfort) to brainstorm new applications for robotics and cobotics (i.e., collaborative robotics).
This ideation process, carried out in teams made up of students from several participating schools, culminated in the afternoon with the creation of models, followed by a brief summary presentation at the end of the day.

– the principals of the participating middle and high schools,
This event was supported by the Besançon School District and the Belfort Territorial Prefecture.

By bringing together, every year since 2017, more than 1,600 engineering students and more than 150 chaperones to offer solutions to more than 130 issues raised by about 50 partners (companies, organizations, etc.), the UTBM Innovation CRUNCH Time has established itself as an extraordinary event,undoubtedly the most significant technological challenge of its kind ever organized in Europe. In particular, it helps engineering students at UTBM and other institutions become familiar with the dynamics formal and informal methods of ideation, also known as creative design or design thinking, a key stage in any innovation process and, in doing so, acquire cross-functional skills in this area.For its part, the "Cordées de la réussite" initiative aims to make career guidance a real driver of equal opportunity.With 900 such initiatives nationwide, their goal is to combat self-censorship and inspire ambition students’ academic progress, through a continuum of support from 8th grade through high school and on to higher education(https://www.cordeesdelareussite.fr/).
